I’ve spent enough time hopping between studios to know that finding the right one in Liverpool isn’t as simple as it sounds. Some places look great online, but feel stiff in person, and a few just don’t capture the sound you hear in your head.
So, I recently set out to figure out which recording studios in Liverpool actually live up to the hype. I asked around, listened to simple tracks, and even visited a few places to see which ones felt right the moment you walked through the door.
What I found were studios that genuinely understand artists—places where engineers listen, rooms are tuned properly, and the atmosphere has that perfect vibe. These Liverpool studios consistently deliver the kind of music you’ll be excited to release.

When I first visited Prohibition Recording Studios, I expected a typical recording space, but it was more than that. The team walked me through their tracking, mastering, and live-event capabilities. It felt like a genuine collaboration environment from the start.
They cater to solo musicians, full bands, and voiceover artists. This makes the studio adaptable to diverse creative needs.
Their production services cover everything from editing and re-amping to vocal pitch correction and full music mastering. It’s the kind of flexibility that suits both newcomers and seasoned performers.
Their live room became my favourite part of the tour. Styled around the 1920s speakeasy era, it features refurbished wooden walls, vintage lamps, and warm lighting. The unique atmosphere makes it ideal for shooting Live Lounge–style videos.
If you already have recorded material, they offer seamless online editing, mixing, and mastering. You can simply upload stems or tracks via WeTransfer, and their engineers will professionally refine everything. It’s a convenient option for home-studio artists.
They also host private gigs and their monthly Prohibition Sessions, creating intimate performance opportunities. The only limitation is that they don’t offer large-scale rehearsal spaces for full-stage setups.

When I discovered Crosstown Studios, I quickly realised they really care about the experience of every artist who walks through the door. They take the time to make sure your tracks sound exactly how you imagined, or sometimes even better.
They handle a wide range of projects—recording, songwriting, production, and mixing. They’ve worked with independent artists like Kathy Halter, Dorothy Bird, and Dan Ryan, providing they understand what emerging musicians need to shine.
If you’re looking for convenience and comfort, the studio is just 10 minutes from Liverpool city centre and offers free parking, free Wi-Fi, and their world-famous coffee. All these make sessions feel relaxed yet professional.
Another thing I appreciate is their equipment and expertise. You’ll work alongside producer and session musician Jon Lawton, and the studio is kitted out with high-quality gear like Cubase Pro 13, Neve 1073 preamps, ensuring top-notch sound every time.
One limitation is that they don’t offer overnight or extended stay sessions for artists who want to track through the night. If you need late-night or 24-hour access, you may need to consider other studios.

I thought Pirate Studios Liverpool was just another self-service music space, but I was wrong. They turned out to be one of the few studios that make booking, recording, and rehearsing completely hassle-free.
Their easy live calendar lets you book sessions by the hour, which is perfect for flexible scheduling. They offer private recording and rehearsal studios, providing professional, acoustically treated spaces to focus on your music.
Another standout is their AUX option, which lets you get feedback from a live audience. It’s a great way to test new material in a supportive environment and refine your tracks before release.
They also run free workshops with guest speakers in A&R, management, and distribution to help artists learn the business side of music.
I also appreciate that Pirate is part of a worldwide network of DJs, production studios, podcasts, and dance studios. Plus, it’s open 24/7. This means you can create whenever inspiration strikes, day or night, with global support at your fingertips.
The only limitation is that they don’t include dedicated in-house engineers for every session. If you want hands-on production support, you’ll need to bring your own or book separately.

It’s a great studio, for such a small cost to practice or have fun
“A lot has changed since my last visit to Pirate Studios, Liverpool!
I was greeted with a team of cleaners as I came into the building, one of whom went into my room just before me, to clean the decks/mixer, change the bin, the lady even asked if I wanted the floor mopping before I commenced! To be fair, the room was immaculate, but I did ask how to work that heater over the door.
No longer do I need to plug in all the cables, it’s all done for me, I just had to switch everything on! Brand new lighting on the ceiling, which the colour can be changed to suit, a very nice addition! The booth has been turned around to face the door, with the speakers behind me. Last time, the booth faced the back wall, with the speakers facing back at me. I prefer this new design layout, it sounds and feels better. There was even a detailed, colour manual showing me how to setup everything, including that heater/aircon, lol!
What caught my eye though, was a tablet saying, “We’re undergoing some scheduled maintenance.” This is a new addition to my last visit, actually, a laptop stand on the opposite side of the desk was also a new feature. Are we getting the long sort after ability to live stream, or video record our sets, to obtain the footage/audio after the session?!! I hope so, as that would save a lot of lugging tripods, cameras and more cables to each session.
The sound quality in the studio is excellent! You feel like you’re at a venue/event, minus the crowd. It’s a great studio, for such a small cost to practice or have fun, whether on your own, with friends/fellow DJ’s, or trying out mixes or even new tracks, (I play a few of my own tracks/works in progress, to see how they sound!). I don’t play at any venues, as much as I would really like to, but for me, having Pirate Studios is the closest and best experience I can ask for. Thank you.”

4. The Motor Museum

The Motor Museum has become one of those studios you walk into and instantly understand why big artists record here. The first thing that grabbed my attention was their monitoring setup powered by Genelec main monitors.
Their day-lit room is another highlight, thanks to its almost retreat-like atmosphere. It has solid oak flooring and poly-cylindrical diffusers, making it a dream for acoustic ensembles, vocals, and strings.
Then there’s the famous Phil Newell-designed stone room. It’s wrapped in rough-hewn Ibizan granite, perfect for the explosive, punchy drum sounds you hear on The City by The 1975.
With clients like Oasis, Arctic Monkeys, The View, and The 1975, it’s easy to see why musicians fly in just to record here.
The only downside is that the recording studio is specifically built for professional recording, so casual demo recording might feel like overkill.
You’re dealing with the best of the best
“The time I spent at the Motor Museum recording my band’s EP last year was one of the best weeks of my life. The studio is frankly amazing, it has a definite atmosphere and vibe which I think can be identified straight away on tracks that are recorded there. Working was Al with an absolute pleasure, he’s a top producer and a great laugh and he’ll always push to get the best out of you as a musician and as a unit.
Add to that the array of amazing equipment at the studio including brilliant Vintage amps, a Neve 8232 analogue mixing console and some crazy German mics and you have a truly wonderful studio experience. All you have to do is look at the long list of previous clientele and legendary records that have been cut here to see that you’re dealing with the best of the best. Couldn’t recommend it more.”

A friend suggested I check out Liverpool Podcast Studios, so I decided to see what they offer. With over 20 million videos uploaded daily and thousands of podcasts launching, I understood why creators keep choosing them.
When I reached out, I learnt they weren’t just renting out rooms. They actually have two purpose-built, fully customisable studios. Both are designed with video-first production in mind and styled with sets that add depth and visual impact.
I was also impressed by their technical setup. They use state-of-the-art cameras, professional lighting, full soundproofing, and more. They even use tools like teleprompters and remote interview capabilities.
Another feature is their Done-for-You production support. This basically means they handle everything while a dedicated producer stays with you throughout the session. This ensures that everything turns out exactly as you envisioned.
The only caveat is that they mainly focus on podcasting plus video content. If you need full music tracking for bands, this isn’t their speciality.
The studio setup is perfect, and the quality looks so professional!
