He explained how they would go about doing a proper job and was able to offer more tanking and damp course work that some other companies we spoke to for what we think was a very reasonable price.
When the work started Lee was always on the end of the phone and made sure all the guys doing the work were up to date and everything ran smoothly. The workmen were friendly, professional and got the work done quickly. They put dust sheets and mats down everywhere and cleaned up after themselves. They took everything away promptly.

The best company we have had work so far
“Abbey Builders have done 2 big jobs for us now over the last couple of years and each time they have been excellent. We had an initial damp and rot assessment from Ritchie which was very thorough and far more in-depth than any other company had previously done. This was followed by a quote from Dave the owner that was very reasonable and fair compared to the other damp/rot companies on the market.
Each time we had work done we had to have floorboards, windows and plaster replaced and once a beam put in to maintain the houses structure. This was done with care and attention on our house which is an old Victorian house with many period features.
The workers were always courteous, hard working and professional. The work was done within a reasonable time scale without unnecessary delay.
One of the biggest strengths of Abbey Builders is that Dave the owner is very easily contactable. He always answers his phone and if he can’t he calls back within an hour or so. And most importantly of all we never had to chase him up for any part of the work. He would call us often and keep us updated. This is in stark contrast to my usual experience with building / housework companies we have used whereby I am constantly having to chase people up to finish work.
The work was carried out to a high standard and comes with guarantee. More importantly I trust Dave the owner so if there are any problems I know I could contact him and he would sort it out.
Overall Abbey Builders are the best company we have had so far to do work on our beautiful home and I would wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone requiring building work or rot/damp work to their house.

Clients also consistently praise their precision on tricky plastering jobs, attention to detail, and professionalism. Even larger renovations run smoothly, showing their experience across different projects.
The only downside is that they don’t include electrical or plumbing work, unlike other companies. You’d have to find another contractor for these services.

“Carl came to give a quote. Then he gave me different ideas. Mmm thought i like the way you think. Date was booked and They actually turned up and on time.
The guys just cracked on with the job. There were a few phone calls. But these were ‘ we fitted the sink, doesnt look right. Picture sent. Then next message. Pictures of possible replacements. With the comment, “which do u like the look of”. Brill. Time saving.

I visited Mersey Developments to learn more about what they offer, and I left genuinely impressed. Their focus on quality shows from the moment you land on their site—they don’t do cookie-cutter lofts.
They specialise in custom loft conversions and also handle house extensions. These include a South Liverpool property transformed into a hip-to-gable with a dormer, a larger bedroom, an ensuite, and a walk-in wardrobe.
Another notable project is a Maghull kitchen extension. It’s fully project-managed from design to final decoration, delivering both style and functionality.
During my consultation, they walked me through the design, budgeting, and planning stages. Everything felt tailored. They even took the time to understand my space and what I wanted to achieve.
The only caveat? High-quality work comes at a premium, so projects can be more expensive than some other local builders.

“Choosing a builder to complete work on your home is a big deal … It’s your home… But after seeing the work Jay and his team completed on my parents bungalow dorma extension a few years ago it was a no brainer to go to Mersey Developments. The care and professional approach they take when working on your home is second to none. We wanted someone we could trust to work with us for a complex garden room needing to make sure we utilized a very awkward shaped area so that we didn’t lose any valuable garden space. My cousin needed work done on her home, so I tagged along to Structec, and it was easy to see why they’re trusted. With over 25 years in the industry, they’ve grown to serve major social housing and public-sector clients while still handling small jobs.
They specialise in building refurbishment, planned and reactive maintenance, and adaptations for disabled residents. Staff here are also trained to work respectfully on each project while ensuring smooth, efficient execution.
I also appreciated that Structec emphasises standards. They hold ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and CHAS accreditations. This gave me confidence in what they can do for clients.
They also run an apprenticeship scheme. I value their training of young people seeking careers in construction, demonstrating a focus on the industry’s future.
